Thailand Day 4 - Bangkok to Erawan Waterfalls via Kanchanaburi

We left our hotel early in the morning and found a cab to the train station.  Grabbing a breakfast of eggs, rice, and chicken at the market across the street from the train we boarded the ordinary train for the 70 mile journey to Kanchanaburi.  3 hours later we arrived having experienced the wonders of an open air train, with bench seating, and only a few fans on the ceiling to keep things cool while stopped at the 22 stations we had to pass.  Hungry we found a stand nearby the station for lunch.  Some scrambling ensued to get fully under the canopy of the stand when the skies opened but that is part of the experience of rainy season in Thailand.

Lunch was enjoyed before finding a cab to our air bnb. Communication with the cab driver was saved by the well placed tourism booth within the train station.  20 miles later we were greeted by our AirBnB host, Aom, on the main road as our taxi tried to find the place.  After unloading and a few minutes of settling in Aom brought over some home made thai ice cream and helped make plans for the next 24 hours.

Aom and her husband would spoil us while we stayed with them.  They insisted on driving us around to see their part of Thailand, its wonders, and its history.  Our first stop was at Erawan National Park were we visited the 7 stepped Erawan Waterfalls.  The 1.5km trail with a pretty good amount of elevation gain offered many small waterfalls and colorful pools with water warm enough to swim in.  We did not have time to swim but managed to see 6 of the 7 levels before returning.  Our hosts then took us to see Srinagarind Dam and a couple picturesque local parks that are nearby to the dam.

On the way home we stopped by a local restaurant where Tori enjoyed some Coconut Shrimp soup, Scott a spicy panang curry, with some delicious seasoned shrimp as an appetizer.  The restaurant overlooked the river and if not for our hosts we never would have ended up in this wonderful spot.

The last couple hours of the evening were spent relaxing in the airbnb.  Another day of experiences and memories that will last a life time.
