Bolivia Day 13 - Bus to Copacabana

We took our time checking out of the hotel and caught a cab to the bus station.  The bus station in La Paz was one of the prettiest we visited in South America and the structure designed by Gustaf Eiffel over a century ago is revered by locals.  We bought tickets to Copacabana and passed the next hour or so eating a simple lunch at the bus stop restaurant.  We arrived to Copacabana on the edge of Lake Titicaca in the late afternoon and walked around town a bit.  Scott ventured down by the water to photograph the sunset before we headed out to dinner.  la paz bus terminal busses on barges crossing part of lake titicaca

Bolivia Day 12 - Tiwanaku

We took a tour out to the UNESCO heritage site of Tiwanaku.  Tiwanaku is one of the largest archeological sites in South America dating back to at least 1580 BC.  The state of the site and the artifacts has suffered severely from centuries of looting and destruction by the Spanish in order to use the stones to build a church and other buildings located in the present town.  Other destruction was caused by military target practice.  Our feelings at the end of this day were mostly that of well we checked it off but didnt feel like we learned our saw anything of great interest.   For more on Tiwanaku wikipedia is a good starting point  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiwanaku The sun gate wall mural showing what the site is thought to have looked like in its prime sun gate sun gate mummy found in the area quinoa soup
