Bolivia Day 10 - La Paz

We explored the city on foot and without guide today.  The weather wasn't ideal initially so we stopped for an early lunch before wandering up to Mercado Rodriguez.  Mercado Rodriquez is a very authentic market that is spread over a few city blocks mainly selling vegetables and fruit but also other essentials.  From here we walked down to the very tourist Mercado de las Brujas (witch market) that is located a few blocks from the Church of San Francisco.  We explored the souvenir shops and setup another walking tour for the following day. Again the weather worsened so we ducked into a coffee shop to let the rest of the weather pass.  A couple of latte's later and we worked our way over to Calle Jean one of the most colorful streets in the La Paz where most of the buildings were constructed during the 17t century.  Continuing to burn off the caffeine we walked up to mirador killi killi for a spectacular view from an elevated vantage point in the center of la paz.  From this viewpoint we were surrounded by vibrant red brick buildings in all directions.  Hungry and thirsty we would back through the narrow streets to the tourist district and ate dinner at a very American restaurant named the Steakhouse.  In nearly three weeks in Argentina we were unable to find a steak as good as the rib eyes we had at this restaurant.  We assumed it would be a tourist trap but we were pleasantly surprised.  We capped the day off at a funky bar that was built out of scrap material and an old train car.  Diesel Nacional may have been our favorite bar in South America.
