Laos Day 11 - Pha Daeng viewpoint and Blue Lagoon 3 - SEAsia Day 25

The previous evening we found a motorbike shop so after breakfast we headed over to pick up the scooters we had agreed to rent.  Setting out through the town was alright and the road was paved though full of potholes until we turned off for the last bit to get to the hike.  We managed to get up the worn gravel road and soon set out on a hike up the Pha Daeng mountain.  The hike was steep and featured small scrambles in spots.  Within an hour we had reached the top viewpoint taking in the views from two previous viewpoints along the way.  We spent a bit of time at the top enjoying the scenery of the valley below from the small bamboo hut they had built at the top.

We hiked back down and climbed back on the scooters set on finding a spot for lunch on route to the Blue Lagoon 3.  Lunch was nice, a stark contrast to the roads that were not paved much past the turn off for the hike.  We avoided ruts and pot holes, got the bikes covered in red muck from many mud puddles that filled the road.  10 dirty kilometers later we reached the swimming area.  This area was less natural than Blue Lagoon 1, but featured a much larger swimming area.  Zip line, and rope swings offered a couple of ways to jump into the lagoon.  Tubes and life jackets were offered to float around in the cool water.  We spent a fair amount of time cooling down and floating on the tubes, chatting with other tourists and locals who were avoiding the afternoon heat.

Back on the bikes we took an alternate route back to town but that proved to be more muddy than the original.  Our plan was to make it across town to visit the water cave but it was nearing 5 o'clock and we were still a few kilometers away.  Not wanting to return in the dark we chose to turn and around and revisit in the morning.
