Vietnam Day 16 - Hue to Hoi An - SEAsia Day 42

Today was a lightly different style of travel day.  We boarded our minibus early in the morning with several stops scheduled between Hue and our next destination, Hoi An.

Shortly outside of Hue we made a stop at a covered bridge.  The area was milling with people and the bridge was ornate but a strange addition as a stop with Hoi An being home to a very famous covered bridge.

Back in the bus we drove along the coast for about one more hour.  We stopped at a sparsely populated resort and walked down to the beach.  This would of been a very nice space to relax for the day but we only had about 30 minutes to enjoy the scenery and conveniently placed Pearl shop.  The Vietnamese are systematically always trying to make a sale to a tourist.

Returning to the road the next stretch was absolutely beautiful.  A new modern tunnel bypasses the mountain pass that our tour took.  The views on the winding road up made us wish we had a way to stop every mile despite a haze that was rolling in off the sea.  We enjoyed our 30 minute stop at the top to take in the views over the coastline we had just visited and off the other side of the pass over looking the town of Nha Trang.

The tour carried on driving us through the town of Danang.  We had opted to skip this resort town and our drive through it made us feel better about our decision.  The bus pulled into our last tour spot Marble Mountain.  We were rushed at this spot as we tried to get a quick bite to eat before heading up the mountain.  Hence we saw only a few of the attractions at the top missing the highest viewpoint and the largest cave.

We arrived in Hoi An in the middle of the afternoon and quickly settled into our hotel.  We wandered around the town a little bit, had some dinner and then ended the day with some foot massages.
