Vietnam Day 6 - On to Sapa - SEAsia Day 32

The theme of being out late and getting up early continued.  Today the reason to be out of bed early was to catch a bus north to the town of Sapa.  Despite this being a morning to mid afternoon bus ride we were boarded onto a sleeper bus.  These busses feature seats that are more like beds in that they are reclined back to roughly 15 degrees.  It is nice to be able to recline and nap for a bus ride, however at 6'4" Scott did not fit well into the seats.  He found a way to be somewhat comfortable with this legs dangling over the sides of the bed.

A couple naps later the bus was in Sapa and we stepped out into the most northern town we will visit in South East Asia.  After getting through the mob of cab drivers and tribal woman trying to convince people to stay in their homestays in their village we wandered through town approximately a mile to our hotel.  Hungry we ventured out to find some food and check out the mountain town.

We enjoyed the evening wandering around the shops and markets in town.  Many of the local tribal folks were out selling there good and dressed in their traditional formal attire.  Heart strings were pulled watching their small children try and sell random items.  Buying from the kids would only perpetuate the problem of children thinking that selling trinkets to tourists is the best way of life.  The solution to this problem seems far away but hopefully the Vietnamese government finds a way to make sure these kids get a proper education.

All in all we were excited for what Sapa might have in store for us over the next few days.
