Laos Day 12 - Water Cave - on to Vientiane - SE Asia Day 26

On our final morning in Vang Vieng we made an early start on the rented motor bikes and headed to the Tham Nam cave.  This cave is created by a stream of water and touring the cave is accomplished by floating on a tube and pulling yourself through via a rope.  The trip into and out of the cave took about 30 minutes with the return being a bit quicker as we were going with the very small current.

Once finished with the cave we drove back into Vang Vieng, returned the motorbikes, showered at the hotel, grabbed some lunch and then caught our bus to Vientiane.  Vientiane is the capital of Laos and a much bigger city than Vang Vieng or Luang Prabang.  We found our hotel for the night and then set out to find some food.  A small open air restaurant on a road near our hotel provided a fine beef noodle soup.

With our stomaches full of delicious soup we headed for a walk across town to see the Patuxay Monument celebrating Laos independence from French colonial rule.  Ironically the memorial is similar in appearance to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.  Our walk also took us past the night market which was cleaner and larger than anything we had experienced in Laos.
