One of the must see spots in the town of Cat Ba is the famous Cannon Fort. This lookout is about 500 feet up a hill that overlooks the Bay. Scott woke up early and ran the 3 km from the hotel to the top in time for sunrise. Running with a tripod was a first but it provided a sense of safety as being the first one up the hill startled a few sleeping stray dogs. The sunrise was worth the effort and lack of sleep to get up there and the timing worked out to be back in time for breakfast.
Once again we were back on the boat and by the end of the morning we would be on dry land again ready for the bus ride back to Hanoi. Once back in the chaos of Hanoi we found our way back to the hotel and relaxed for a bit. Eventually we met up with our new Spanish friends and enjoyed the evening finding cheap beer in Hanoi. 8000 Vietnam Dong was the lowest we found which is roughly 40 US cents.
