Laos Day 9 - Head to Vang Vieng and Blue Lagoon 1 - SEAsia Day 23

The day started with a quick breakfast across the street from our guest house and we were picked up shortly after by air conditioned mini bus for the trip to Vang Vieng.  Once again the Laos roads were a mess but our driver and a newer suspension meant we covered approximately 50km every hour instead of the 30 on the previous trips.  The scenery was beautiful as we crossed the mountains elevating as high as 6000 feet for one of the passes.

It was hot and dusty when we arrived in Vang Vieng so after an enjoyable lunch at the Happy Mango Thai Restaurant we decided to check out one of the Blue Lagoons to escape the heat.  We opted for the original Blue Lagoon, now known as Blue Lagoon 1.  The reviews were mixed but unfortunately the ones that stated "this is just a natural swimming pool that has lost its natural beauty due to what has been built around it" were spot on.  We did enjoy the hike up to Phu Kham Cave that is adjacent to the lagoon but overall did not spend as much time at the place as we intended.

We returned to town, and once again cleaned up before heading out to find something to eat.  We were disappointed in the food at the Green Restaurant but enjoyed our walk through the night markets on our way back to the bungalow.
