Bali Day 8 - Beaches - SEAsia Day 63

Bali is known for its beaches and today we planned to take full advantage.  The first beach we headed to was Balangan Beach.  This beach was pretty and expansive and overall very quiet.  There was a reason it was quiet though the water was full of floating seaweed.  We spent a couple hours lounging on the beach and sipping on banana smoothies but left for a beach we could enjoyable swim at.

The second beach was quoted as a hidden gem on some blogs but we were disappointed when we arrived.  Bingin Beach was again not good for swimming this time due to the lack of a sandy entry.  There also wasnt much room for people to lay in the sand.  It was nearing lunch time anyway so we packed up our towels and hiked back up the 150 or so stairs to our bikes.

A short drive took us to Cafe Pasion where we enjoyed some good Mexican food and waited as a passing thunderstorm rolled through.

With the skies clear again we made Dreamland Beach our next stop.  Getting there was a bit tricky as one side is paid entry via some exclusive beach club but another road over allowed us to park for free and walk down to the same beach. The beach was absolutely gorgeous and was not too busy, though apparently in peak season it can be ridiculous.  The water was crystal clear and the waves were rolling in nicely.  The only negative was a couple of feet near the shore that the waves were tossing some rocks around in.  Both of us ended up with small wounds from the rocks hitting us as we made our way into the water.

We capped of the daylight by heading to Uluwatu temple for sunset.  As we watched the sun set from our cliffside vantage point the monkeys came out.  With Scott's focus on taking a photograph a monkey ran along a railing and stole his sunglasses off of his head.  One of the staff managed to get the glasses back by tricking the monkey with some fruit, but the monkey had bent the frame (glasses did get fixed in Singapore).

Dinner was at the Bukit Cafe and once again we were pleased with the food.
