Vietnam Day 28 - Cu Chi Tunnels - SEAsia Day 54

The rain continued in the morning but we had already booked a tour to see the famous Cu Chi tunnels.  The Cu Chi tunnels are hand dug tunnels that were created initially by Vietnamese farmers to hide grain and themselves from the French during their fight for independence.  The tunnels were expanded by the VietCong during the Vietnam war and were one of the reasons why the Americans were unsuccessful.

With the tour complete and the front edge of the typhoon over Saigon we spent a couple hours in the late afternoon touring the War Remnants museum.  This museum is full of artifacts and photos focused on the Vietnam war.  A large display on the effects that Agent Orange had on and continues to have on those who are descended from contacted individuals was nauseating.

A less revolting but still disturbing display was the very long list of photographers who were killed trying to give the public a look into the atrosity that was the Vietnam war.  Several rooms featured work by these brave men and women who gave their lives doing their best to convey the horrors of war to the world.

The weather amplified the mood brought on by the museum as dark and heavy skies poured down on us as we headed back toward the hotel.  We made a stop for dinner at a random hole in the wall and enjoyed delicious hot noodle soup.  The following fifteen minutes in the rain soaked us to the core.

This was the last night that are schedules were going to align with the Spaniards.  Scott braved flooded streets to wander a quarter mile down the road to meet them for a beer.  Tori's decision to stay inside was deemed to be the better one.
Entrance hole.  Very small, and has a lid covered in leaves to make it hard to find.
