Malaysia Day 4 - Kuala Lumpur - SEAsia Day 69

Today was a day of a lot of walking around Kuala Lumpur.  The first stop was a visit to the Sultan Abdul Samad Building.  From wikipedia "The building originally housed the offices of the British colonial administration, and was known simply as Government Offices in its early years. In 1974 it was renamed after Sultan Abdul Samad, the reigning sultan of Selangor at the time when construction began."  Located next to the Sultan building is a large square featuring a huge flag pole and Malaysian Flag.  This flag pole was the first flag pole to raise the Malaysian flag after their independence from Britain in 1957.  Clearly some inspiration was taken from the Americans when designing their flag.

After spending some time at this impressive building we made our next stop at the Botanical Gardens and wandered through some of its 91.6 hectares.  The park was created in 1888 and now features the worlds largest covered bird Park, a butterfly park and an orchid garden.  We visited the Orchid garden as well as a lengthy walk through the more general grounds.

Walking back from the gardens toward town we stopped by the National Mosque which can accommodate up to 15000 worshippers at one time.  We continued our walk and visited the Sri Kandaswamy Kovil Hindu Temple.  This temple is over a century old and one of the most prominent of its kind in Malaysia.

The weather was turning to rain so we caught a grab back to the hotel hoping for the skies to clear.  Later in the evening the rain lightened a bit and we made our way over to the Petronas towers to view its fountains and the tallest twin towers in the world.  We should have bought umbrellas before going on this walk, and we should have left a bit earlier as we only caught the final couple minutes of the fountain show which ends at 10pm.

Dessert with beer!

Malaysia's brewing laws suck but persistent bar owners can jump through hoops to import beer.
Here is a tasty delight from Denmark.
