Chile Day 6 - Kieran arrives.

Scott's good friend Kieran arrived in Santiago in the morning for our third reunion with him during the trip.  He will be spending the next couple of weeks with us as he joins on the trek at Torres Del Paine National Park.  We caught up and relaxed for a couple hours at the condo before heading to La Tereza, a popular sandwich shop, for lunch.  We ordered sandwiches that were too large to eat with our hands, and too large for Tori to finish.  After dropping off the leftovers we again jumped on the metro and headed across town to Santiago's general cemetery.  This cemetery was unlike any we had ever seen before.  There was huge multi story structures that kept the caskets of entire families.  For those that couldnt afford a plot of land there was essentially multistory apartment buildings of casket each floor stacked 4 high.  Incredibly different than anything we have seen in North America clearly preserving the body takes on much greater significance to south american Catholics than those elsewhere.  After a couple hours wandering around in the heat we hopped back on the metro and Cerro Santa Lucia.

We climbed the small hill that is in the center of the city and took in the sights of its castle on the way up.  From the top we enjoyed the 360 degree views of the city and the shade provided by the numerous trees on the property.  Next was a trip back to the apartment for dinner and then a few laughs over more beer and wine.  Good times.
