Chile Days 9-11 Punta Arenas

day 9 - feb 2

Today was one of those days where nothing seems to go the way you want it to.  Shortly after the clock struck midnight Scott leaned back in a chair and it broke in half.  More than two weeks later and we are still awaiting the air bnb hosts repair estimate - Scott's prediction is that it is not fixable due to a massive knot in the wood which caused the chair to fail.  The next comedy of errors was Tori realizing she had forgotten her dry bag at the airbnb, only to get a message after we had passed security at the airpot that it was indeed at the airbnb along with her travel pillow.  The day continued its spiral when Scott discovered he had been sold a fake SDCard from wish.com and had lost the previous two days worth of images.  The days fun continued after boarding our flight to Punta Arenas.  A long taxi ride ensued to a maintenance area where our flight was delayed for about 90 minutes while something was repaired - better safe than dead though.

Eventually the day improved as we did make it to Punta Arenas, reconnected with Kieran who had taken an earlier flight and enjoyed some pizza, beer and a walk through town.  The night finished at Bar Bulnes a happening brewpub on the outskirts of Punta Arenas.

day 10 - feb 3

Today turned into a somewhat lost day.  We relaxed at the hostel in anticipation of seeing penguins in the afternoon.  After making our way to the boat dock we were informed the tour would not be able to run for its normal duration due to the timing being perfectly in sync with an extremely low tide.  We opted to delay our tour for a couple days and spent the afternoon wandering around a shopping mall picking up items needed for the trek.  In the evening we found a restaurant to watch the super bowl and at halftime switched to another bar that would be open until the end of the game.

day 11 - feb 4

Today was spent as a planned day in shops getting the final pieces we needed for the trek.  A couple grocery stores to get the necessary food.  And an adventure to unsuccessfully find powdered eggs.  The next 10 days are going to make us miserable eating oatmeal every morning.
