Argentina Day 10 - Cafayate Waterfall hike

We slept in before wandering into town to find some coffee.  The main plan of the day was to take at tour at 3pm through the Quebrada de Humahuaca.  At 3:15 the pickup had not happened yet and by 3:45 we were told there was issues with the bus and the tour could not run.  We pivoted and caught a taxi to the base of a trail that hikes 6 waterfalls upwards through a valley carved by the stream.

The hike was beautiful but the trail was hard to follow.  We knew guides were around but none were available when we started.  As we started to question what side of the stream the trail was on a gentleman in his mid forties started guiding us.  A few minutes later Scott was able to negotiate a price to take us the rest of the trek and we are very happy that we did.

The guide took us on an adventure that showed us all of the waterfalls and the most direct route to see them all.  We collected an Argentinian girl who could not find her way to the 4th waterfall.  The 4 of us scrambled our way to waterfalls 4, 5 and 6.  A couple of the scrambles were a bit sketchy but despite some fear we made it through and were rewarded with a very lovely oasis at the end.  With the direction of our guide we took an alternate route out of the canyon and got a lovely view of the town before a much easier route down.

upon returning to the trail head the taxi who we had arranged to meet us at a certain time failed to show up.  We started the walk back in before the three of us got picked up by a kind couple who was visiting the town for the weekend.  This saved us an hour and a half walk back into the village.

We cleaned up and found some much deserved food.  An interesting day.
