Chile day 18 - Grey to Paine Grande

We took our time leaving camp as the days hike was not supposed to be too strenuous.  The trail worked its way along a ridge line offering views of lago grey to our right and at various points spectacular views of grey glacier in the distance.  The number of people we passed on this trail was significantly more than in previous days as we were now fully on the W part of the trek.  Eventually we veered away from Lago Grey and spent the next couple of hours walking through a valley most likely carved they a tongue of grey glacier hundreds or maybe thousands of years ago.  The days hike was supposed to be 9-10km and mostly downhill based on one map we had read.  Upon arriving an hour later than anticipated we learned it was actually closer to 12km and contained a fair amount more up and over hills than the map we read let on.

We happily setup camp, cleaned up a bit, ate a late lunch and then headed to explore the views of Pehoe Lake.  The views over the teal glacier lake with mountains near on one side and further off on the other were incredible.  Some people claim this lake is more spectacular than lake louise but I think the abutment of mountains directly against lake louise make lake louise slightly prettier.  All in all another day that rewarded traveling to the end of the world to experience and we went to bed happy.
