Day 57 - PEI

Shortly after our alarms went off we hopped in the car and headed back up to the north side of the island.  We stopped at the Cavendish section of PEI national park and made breakfast overlooking the ocean.  As the eggs were cooking - which took alot longer than expected due to the wind - the skies darkened and not 5 minutes after finishing breakfast the rain began.  Unfortunately it rained for most of the day, but we tried to make the best of it.  We skipped Anne of Green Gables park as wandering that property would have been a chore soaking wet, and found our way up to see the Tea Cup rock.  Tori opted to not venture down the beach as she did not have a rain jacket with her.  Scott made it to the less than spectacular sea stack.  After a attempting to view a couple lighthouses and giving up due to even heavier rains we decided to move our lobster supper up to be a midday meal.  Some souvenir shopping, and a stop at the post office to send a spare key back to Halifax, on route to Fis

Day 56 - Off to Prince Edward Island

Up early and after some eggs and avocado for breakfast Tori and I headed for the ferry to Prince Edward Island.  We made our targeted sailing time and enjoyed the journey across the calm waters on a warm sunny day.  The nap on the top deck was glorious and soon enough we were on the island.  Taking a right after unboarding the ferry we saw a little bit of the eastern side of the island.  Our first stop was at Roma at Three Rivers National Historic Site.  We wandered around the old homestead for a little bit before heading on to Montague. We drove through a few more towns eventually arriving at Prince Edward Island National Park - Greenwich.  We hiked the famous Dunes hike across the floating boardwalk out to the beach along the north shore of the island. The weather was hot and humid, but the cool waters of the Gulf of St Lawrence were refreshing.  With the hike behind us our next destination was to check in at our Airbnb just west of Charlottetown.  Thankfully for Tori's sake we p

Day 55 - Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg, Halifax

Tori and I headed for Peggy's Cove and Lunenburg for the day, hoping to also add a hike at Hardiman Cove but the fog was much too heavy when we arrived for it to be worth while.  Peggy's cove had some fog, but could still be enjoyed even amongst the crowds of people swarming across it.  The day continued to warm up and was in the mid 80's when we started walking around Lunenburg.  The UNESCO world heritage site is one of only two urban areas designated as such in the world.  Following Lunenburg we headed to Mahone Bay and got out of the heat at saltbox brewing.  The day was passing by quickly and we returned to Halifax to spend one more evening with Scott and Marie Soleil.  The famous lighthouse at Peggy's Cove Establishment in Lunenburg Beverage at Saltbox in Mahone Bay

Day 52 - 54 Port Dufferin and onto Halifax

Day 52 Another relaxing day hanging out in Port Dufferin.  Scott was back on the sail board and listened to Barrie's advice and made sure he saw him on the other side of the bay.  Intentionally or not the steady breeze created an adventure and another story for this trip.  Tori stayed committed to her plans and despite the delay put in a few more miles running.  One more happy hour on the porch and unfortunately our time in Port Dufferin has to come to an end in the morning. Day 53 We packed up our things, took a stroll down Smiley's Point road to see a neighbour and their Duck Trolling Retriever, said our goodbyes and set out for Halifax.  The drive along the eastern shore was gorgeous and before long we were stopping for lunch at Yeah Yeah's pizza in Dartmouth.  Very full from eating too much pizza we arrived at Marie Soleil and Scott's place in the south end of Halifax.  The only greeting that was not part of the usual was that of the new addition to their fami

Day 51 - final morning at highlands national park

After a couple good hikes the day before we took our time waking up and slowly packed up camp before heading out to hike Middle Head, a lovely, but mostly level 2+ mile loop out onto some rock cliffs over looking Ingonish Beach and the Atlantic Ocean.  Following the hike we took our time returning to Port Dufferin with stops at a few more gift shops, and a stop in Antagonish to get a picture printed for Grandpa. Happy hour happened shortly after arriving back in Port Dufferin, and relaxation mode was quickly re-engaged.  A very pretty sunset capped the day.

Day 50 - Highlands National Park Day 2

We woke up before most of the other campers, made breakfast and headed up the Acadian trail.  This 5 mile loop hike gave us views over Cheticamp, the Gulf of St Lawrence, and the highlands.  After completing the hike we, took down our now dried out tent, headed into a Cheticamp for a baked treat (or three) and then continued our drive along the Cabot Trail through the park.  We stopped at various lookout points, a few unspectacular gift shops, and eventually found our way to White Point where we made lunch near the small fishing town's beach.  A bit more scenery and we were in Ingonish and setup camp again.  We set out on our second 5 mile hike of the day making our way up the Franey Trail for views over Ingonish, the Highlands Links golf course, and the Atlantic Ocean.  The views were worth the relatively steep climb up, though the backside of the loop back down was tedious and boring.  Some lamb and pasta was enjoyed for dinner, cooking on a single propane burner is a chore, but
