Cambodia Day 15-17 - Koh Rong - SEAsia Day 92-94

Day 15

We checked out at 9 and were back on the mainland around 10:30 where we had to get from Otres beach back to the main pier in Sihanoukville to catch a ferry over to Koh Rong.  A miscommunication by our travel agent and the ferry company meant the truck we were to get a ride in was overfilled.  After stopping at 4 different hotels with the same name trying to pickup the last passenger we arrived to the ferry 45 minutes late.  This meant that 2/3s of the boat had been waiting for us for at least half an hour.  Just another day in south east asia.  The ride across was alright apart from the leaky roof which caused a few passengers to get soaked.  We arrived at Coconut Bungalows late in the afternoon and settled in before exploring the ocean again.

After dinner we spent the rest of the evening playing card games and enjoying a few beverages.

Day 16

We had plans on walking to 4 of the beaches on the island.  A late start to the day but shortly after lunch we walked to the next beach over.  It was hot and we went for a swim, then we found a resort that lent us a volleyball.  We found a german guy walking past and recruited him to play.  A couple hours later we had exhausted ourselves and the day was getting short.  By this point it was nearing 5 and some rain was coming in so we decided to walk back to the resort.  After showers and dinner the card and dice games started again.  We were joined by a trio of Chinese girls and a few other tourists such that the largest dice game was played by 15 people.  Many laughs and much competitive blood was out.  A fun night on our last night to spend with Nathan and company.

Day 17

A tropical storm was approaching and the seas were rough.  Our return ferry was delayed a couple of hours and once again would not pick us up at the pier by our resort.  We walked a bit and were once again in the modified back of a pickup on a bumpy road to get to a ferry.  After waiting for the pickup truck to return with a second group of passengers we departed for the choppy trip back to the mainland.  Instead of arriving at the tourist port the boat docked in the industrial harbor which was a benefit to us as it was closer to the airport.  We paid too much for a tuk tuk to take us to the airport and then fun began.  The rain picked up and the tuk tuk stopped to put down the plastic side curtains.  The driver then asked if wanted to get a ride in a car from his brother who had pulled up behind us.  We agreed and then realized the car had 6 people in it already.  Due to rain and timing we went with it and had a tight squeeze but dry ride to the airport.  Life in Cambodia.  We had a couple of sandwiches at the airport and then enjoyed boredom as our flight was delayed as the arriving aircraft had to fly around the tropical storm.  Eventually we flew back around the storm and landed in phuket late in the evening.  Cambodia it was a wonderful 17 days!
