Day 19 - Grand Canyon south rim, and horseshoe bend

June 18,  Scott's birthday.  A great start to the day with Scott dumping a cup of hot chocolate into the back of the car while searching for salt and pepper to put on the eggs.  Hot chocolate was cleaned up, breakfast was had, salt and pepper was found (after finishing of course).

We packed up our tent and made our way back to the south rim of the Grand Canyon.  We spent a couple hours walking through the village, and along the rim trail from the village to the Geology museum at Yavapai point.  This walk took us through the Kolb studio, past the El Tovar Hotel, through the Hopi House and to the museum.

After lunch we made the drive through the eastern part of the park stopping at a few viewpoints, the Tusayan ruins, and finally stopping at the famous Desert View watchtower.

We spent a bit of time at the tower before getting back in the car for the drive to Page, AZ.

Arriving in Page in time for dinner we celebrated the birthday at a BBQ joint and over a couple beers.  Content and satisified we joined the masses at Horseshoe Bend for the sunset.  Scott was expecting 50 or so people to be there but there was upwards of 250.

the sunset was probably pretty standard for a summer night in the desert as there were no clouds in the sky to add to the beauty.  The warm still air was enjoyed more than the cool breeze felt the night before on the rim of the Grand Canyon.

With the sunset we made our way to Big Water, UT and our home for the next 2 nights.
