Day 23 - Capitol Reef National Park

The sun woke us up again, the sun and a garbage truck emptier a dumpster somehwere in the parking lot that bordered the campground.  Scott left shortly to go pick up Kieran from the nearby greyhound station, returning to Tori having put away the campsite.

After making a quick breakfast we repacked the car to accomodate a third person and headed down the road to Capitol Reef National Park.  Parking at the Visitor Centre we headed out on a 5 mile hike following Sulfur Creek.   Wading through ankle deep water at times, approximtely a mile in we came to a 5 foot water fall that we had to scramble over to continue.  After some effort we made it over and continued upstream, enjoying the coolness of the water and the beauty of the canyon.  A short while later we reached our goal of two smaller waterfalls and headed back in.  We enjoyed sliding back down the small waterfall and quickly dried off in the heat during the final mile out.

Next was a quick lunch, and a short stop to see some 1000 year old native Petroglyphs.

The time at Capitol Reef was ended by a 3 mile hike to Hickman Bridge a 140 foot natural arch.

A red sunset was enjoyed from the campground in Moab as smoke from distant forest fires added dazzle to the setting sun.
