Day 5 - Yosemite National Park - Yosemite Valley

Day 5 was our first full day at Yosemite National Park.  Our plan was to spend the day in the Valley which features the most famous attractions of the park such as the infamous Half Dome, and North American's tallest waterfall Yosemite Falls.

Our first stop was to hike the Mist Trail which climbs to the top of Nevada Falls after passing the lower but still beautiful Vernal Falls. This hike was listed as a 7 mile round trip with approximately 3000 ft of elevation gain.  The hike was aptly named Mist Trail as we and the hundreds of others on the trail were soaked for their efforts to hike to the top of Vernal.  The mist was appreciated as the temperature in the valley would reach 90 degrees and even at the top of the Nevada falls was well over 70.  All in all we ended up with nearly 11 miles of hiking by the time we made it back to the car.  The views were worth every step of the climb and I'd highly recommend this hike to anyone going to the park.

After spending 5 plus hours hiking, we went to the Valley Store to grab some food for a light lunch.  Lunch turned into cheese, crackers, and a couple local beers, which were enjoyed at one of the many day areas along the river that flows through the valley.

We made our way up to Glacier Point for a view of the Yosemite valley for sunset.  This spectacular view showed us the two waterfalls we had hiked earlier in the day, as well as Yosemite Falls.  The primary focal piece from Glacier Point is Half Dome.  We watched as its magnificent granite face showed some of the colors of the setting sun.

A drive back to camp through the windy roads of the park and we slept in preparation for another day in the park.
