Day 4, 500 miles from Crater Lake to Yosemite

Day 4 was a long day of driving.  We left Crater Lake Resort after packing up our tent and a quick breakfast of eggs, coffee, and hot chocolate.  The day was never planned to be the most exciting and it pretty much lived up to that.  We drove on some scenice state highways as we ventured through south central Oregon into Northern California.  We were pleasantly surprised with the proximity to Mount Shasta that Google Maps guided us, and a bright blue day showed this magnificent volcano in all of its glory.  Carrying on south we stopped and made sandwiches at a very nice and new California highway rest stop (We noted that the next few were at least a couple of decades more decrepit).

About an hour after lunch we took a small detour and wandered around Old Town Sacramento.  An interesting tourist destination, but nothing in particular caught our eye and within half an hour were back on the road.  We wound up our way up highway 120 and stopped at the mountain top Priest Station cafe.  A very cool cafe, with slightly better than average food, but a welcome break from camp food.

We arrived at Yosemite Pines campground a short time later and setup camp, before heading into Yosemite National Park in hope of information and to book a campsite for the next night.  We didnt accomplish either and settled for the tail end of sunset hitting the famous Half Dome.

Back to camp and the spiders in the trees over our tent changed our plans a bit.  We quickly revised our strategy and setup the car to sleep in.  This had been planned but never executed.  I was quickly able to attach the tent over the hatch, but took more time to figure out how to get the interior hatch light to turn off.  Trick found on the internet, close the latch and make sure it clicks twice.  Just remember to open it before closing the hatch later on.  With the light off Day 4 and 600 miles of driving were in the book, the two of us excited, knowing we were in for a couple spectacular days at Yosemite National Park.
