We walked over and explored the manmade Marl caves of Maastricht. These caves are the result of centuries of marl and limestone excavation by the people of the area. Today some of the caves have been lost due to large scale excavation of the limestone for use in concrete production. At their peak the caves stretched over 200 miles and had some 23000 passages.
After finishing the tour of the caves we walked a short distance over and visited the small castle Lichetenberg before we wandered back along the river, took our time going through town and then relaxed in the airbnb that evening.
