Greece Day 1 - Acropolis, Athens

After arriving at our hotel at 10pm we grabbed some food and went to bed having been up for nearly 30 hours as neither of us were able to sleep on the plane.   We woke up at 2pm and ventured out to see some of the sites of Athens.

Our first stop as at arguably the most famous of all the sites.  The Acropolis sits on a hill in the center of the city.  These ancient ruins and in the tedious process of restoration but are still an incredible site to see.  We wandered around the city on the hill and its slopes for a few hours before leaving this famous area.

From the Acropolis we headed a short distance over to Filopappou Hill which offers stunning views of the Acropolis.  We took our time wandering around the hill stopping at the Prison of Socrates as well as the Monument of Philopappos.  At one lookout we spent about half an hour talking with a couple of middle aged Norwegian men about Athens, the world, photography and as always unavoidable American politics.

It was pushing sunset and the temperature was cooling off so we returned back down the hill passing through some of the small little streets selling souvenirs and other things.  We ventured out to dinner at a restaurant that acted as a street food court.  Food was good and the atmosphere was interesting.  A couple of beers were had at Barley Cargo to wrap up the night.
