Romania Day 3 - Bran Castle and Rasnov fortress

After breakfast at the apartment we grabbed a couple coffee's from Ted's coffee that is conviently located a few doors down from where we are staying we ubered to the bus station.  For a couple dollars each we caught a bus over to the town of Bran and visited the dramatic 14th century Bran castle.  The Bran castle was the former residence Queen Maria and is the alleged inspiration of Count Dracula's castle.  Seatedon top of a hill this fortification was initially built by civilians to protect them from invaders passing through the Bran mountain pass.  We thoroughly enjoyed our visit despite getting caught up a few times with various high school field trips.

After eating a sausage outside the castle we caught a bus back toward Brasov stopping in the town of Rasnov where we visited Cetatea Rasnov a large fortress sitting on a hill overlooking the city.  The panoramic views over the valley were incredible, and the fortified castle and grounds were quite impressive.  It was also nice to avoid some of the passing rain showers and take the funicular up and down the hill to and from the castle.  After touring this impressive site we made our back through town and caught a bus back to Brasov.

It was raining once again in Brasov so we postponed a walking tour and relaxed at the apartment before dinner.
