Romania Day 4 - 7 Stairs Canyon

We caught a bus out of the city late morning and stopped at the Piatra Mare natural area.  We hiked for about an hour up into the mountain before paying a small admittance fee to get access to the 7 stairs canyon.  This narrow canyon carved by a creek offered us a very unique hike.  Climbing up well constructed ladders and across very well maintained catwalks we enjoyed the many beautiful waterfalls in the canyon.  After about 15 minutes we were through the narrowest and steepest stretches.  We continued to follow the stream for a while longer taking in the beauty and quiet of the forest mixed with large beech trees and a variety of coniferous.  The bypass route back down was a bit slick from rain but we managed to stay up right and were soon back at the administration lodge.  We hiked the hour back out carrying umbrellas as the rain picked up.

Following a bus ride back into town we grabbed a snack before cleaning up and getting dinner at a small but delicious restaurant, Mediterraneano.  Another fine day in Romania.
