Peru Day 14 - Exploring Machu Piccu

After a wonderful night's sleep in a bed we were up early for breakfast before catching a 6:30 bus up to Machu Piccu.  The clouds thickened as the bus climbed from Aguas Calientes up to the base of Machu Piccu and when we arrived the ancient city was not visible at all.  The clouds did not matter as we hurried to hike to the Inka bridge.  The inka bridge was part of one of a handful of paths that Machu Piccu could be reached via.  We rushed back from the Inka bridge in time to meet back up with our group and watched as the clouds continued to lift off and break away from the city and its small mountain Wayan Piccu.  We consider ourselves very lucky to have seen this spectacular site in great weather as well as shrouded in mystical clouds.  After a few more photos from the view over the city we made our way down through the western gate and started exploring the ancient wonder.  We visited the quarry, many of the rooms, a couple of temples, as well as wandered through many of the residential areas of the town.  By 11 we had wound ourselves back to the entrance and took the bus back into Aguas Calientes.  Tori and Mandy opted for massages while Scott and Sean wandered through the cities streets.  At 3:20 we caught a train back to Ollantaytambo switching to a bus that would return us to Cusco.  We had dinner at Pachapapa and repacked our bags to be ready for our 6:40 flight back to Arequipa in the morning.  Our time at Machu Piccu was a memorable one and despite the thousands of other visitors this is a special place.  The precise construction and hard working way of life of the Inkas is something we will never forget.
