Greece Day 4 - Back to Athens

In the morning we drove the short drive back up to the monasteries and saw a couple more that we had not seen the day prior.  Of the 6 that are open to visitors we ended up seeing 5 of them and highly recommend breaking the visit up over two days as you can avoid the peak visiting hours and you get to see the valley and hills in both morning and afternoon light.  We then started back to Athens.  4 hours of driving later we dropped off the rental car and caught a taxi back into the city in order to maximize sight seeing time.

We visited the famous Panathenaic Stadium and thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary audio tour.  This impressive stadium has been the site of athletic competition for millenia and has displayed its magnificent all marble aesthetics for the past century.  Following the stadium visit we visited the very impressive ruins of the Temple of Zeus.  The remaining incredibly tall pillars and a site to see and the late day sun lit them up beautifully.

Following our time at the temple we wandered back around the Acropolis through the streets of Plaka, down a bunch of streets laden with souvenirs and eventually found our hostel.
